Running Los Feliz
A needlessly thorough tour of my neighborhood

I’ve been running most of my life. I’ve enjoyed running since my mid-twenties.
In high school, I ran cross-country, where I was constantly in trouble for slowing down the good runners, who would hang back to talk with me at practice. Also, I quit halfway through each season to be in the school musical.
I started running more seriously in my early twenties, when I lived at an outdoor camp, went through a breakup, and gained weight from too much cheap beer. In 2016, though I’d never run longer than 9 miles, I completed the LA Marathon in five hours and twelve minutes – without training or officially signing up – which was a wildly stupid thing to do. But I got a medal!
I’m not the fastest runner, but I like to have a goal. A couple years ago, that led me to try to run every street in my neighborhood and hike every trail in Griffith Park. Now, if you live in Los Feliz, I’ve seen your house. And if you have a Ring camera, you probably have footage of me with my shirt off.
A year after this, I thought I’d try my hand at AI-assisted data visualization, and made a website pulling data from my Apple Watch’s GPX files as well as some other data I had to manually add to a spreadsheet because Apple doesn’t let you export it.
