The Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio Square Block Party is one of the many excellent events put on each year by the Los Feliz Neighborhood Council's Cultural Affairs Committee. In 2025, I was really looking forward to helping throw the party. Then, right before the event, I got hired to stage manage a video game competition in Paris for a month. Still wanting to contribute, I volunteered to pull together research from the committee’s co-chairs to create an audio walking tour of Disney history in our neighborhood.

So, from a windowless concrete room in the back of a French arena, I built a web app that ties together six locations through Los Feliz, including the Disney Bros. first studio, the places they lived, and the site of the original Walt Disney Studios (which now houses a Gelson’s supermarket). At each location, you can listen to narration by Camille Dixon and Bill Rogers, the official voices of Disneyland, and then get walking directions via Google Maps to the next stop.

I built this to be a simple, yet customizable platform for walking tours, so it’s super easy to edit text in a markdown file and swap out new images and audio. We’re planning to make a few more for Los Feliz soon, and I’d love if more people used the platform. Want to use my code to make your own walking tour? It’s all on GitHub under a GNU General Public License.
