I Could Do That

In 2010, I created and starred in a pilot for a reality show called I Could Do That. The premise was basically that I, a 23 year old idiot, would attempt to do things I saw on TV – I’d live in the wilderness like Bear Grylls, track a criminal like Dog the Bounty Hunter, and pimp a ride like Xzibit. What I ended up doing was getting my ass beat by an amateur ninja while a few dozen friends watched.

In the pilot we shot, “I Could Punch a Black Belt in the Face,” I sparred with a guy named Alex who had a blackbelt in Ninpo Taijitsu. His sensei, an 80-year-old man named Ron Blackwood, ran a dojo in the back of a commercial warehouse. I’d never been in a fight before, and it didn’t go great for me. But the pilot we shot did get into the 2011 New York Television Festival, where I was approached by a couple talent agents from N.S. Bienstock.

After telling me I was “good looking, but not Hollywood handsome” which is “perfect because it’s relatable for middle America,” they said they had no interest in my show, but wanted to represent me as a TV personality.

So for a couple years after that, I had a reality TV agent who got me auditions to host Discovery Channel shows. I never booked any of them, and eventually they stopped calling me. My agent also represented Bill O’Reilly, so I think they still made plenty of money without me.
