In 2019, I saw the headline "Soon There Will Be Unlimited Hair" in the Atlantic, and thought that string of words was so ridiculous I had to write a short story about it. So I saved the source code of the Atlantic article about hair-loss cures and replaced their text and images with mine.
I emailed it to the original author, James Hamblin, and he responded right away, worried about how easily I spoofed the Atlantic’s page. And that was before generative AI made it way, way easier.
