Every year, my parents ask me to write them short stories instead of buying them birthday or Christmas gifts. It's very sweet (but also sometimes feels like a lot more work than online shopping for them).
This is a short story I wrote for them in 2020. It combines the Wait Equation of interstellar travel with some reflections on the human drive to be exceptional. If that doesn't make sense right now, read the story and hopefully it will.
